Chase Witala had a goal and four points for the Prince George Cougars, leading them to a 6-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night at Mosaic Place.

Moose Jaw started the game strong and had a good attack to the Cougars net, but Prince George was able to respond with four goals in 2:38 early in the first period to take control.

Prince George opened the scoring with a power play goal from Kody McDonald at 7:02; then just 56 seconds later, Chase Witala made it 2-0; at 9:16, Jansen Harkins made it 3-0; and then Brogan O’Brien finished the flurry of offense with a goal at 9:40.

Moose Jaw outshot the Cougars 14-13 in the opening period and were finally able to put the puck over the goal line at 15:20 when Jayden Halbgewachs controlled the puck behind the Prince George net before tossing the puck to the Cougars net where it went off of Brett Howden in the crease for his 18th of the season.

In the second period, the Warriors had plenty of energy, matched the Cougars physical play and outshot Prince George 12-10 in the period.

Just past the six minute mark of the frame, the puck was rolling towards the Cougars end boards, Howden hustled down the ice on the fore-check, dove and swatted the puck to a trailing Halbgewachs, who whistled the puck past goalie Nick McBride to make it a two-goal game.

Whatever momentum the Warriors had created in the second period, the Cougars buckled down in the third and silenced the Tribe.  Prince George added goals from Bartek Bison and Jansen Harkins (empty net) to hand the Warriors a 6-2 loss.
