All the focus in the Western Hockey League is currently on the trade deadline, which arrives on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Saskatchewan.

The first place Moose Jaw Warriors however have their focus squarely on extending their winning streak to season-high seven games when they host the Calgary Hitmen at Mosaic Place on Wednesday night.

“We’re focusing on what’s on hand, we know we’ve got a pretty special group in here already, so we’re just taking it day-by-day and when it’s done, we’ll know what we have for the rest of the year,” said overage forward Tanner Jeannot, who has 31 goals through 42 games this season.

The only “deadline” deal that the Warriors have made so far is acquiring 19-year-old defenceman Brandon Schuldhaus from Red Deer last Friday.

If the Warriors pass the deadline with the same group in place, Jeannot said the team is fine with that.

“We’ve shown that we have a pretty special group, so we’ve just got to keep going, keep getting better everyday and I’m excited to see what this team can do,” he said.

The Warriors have strung together a six-game winning streak for the third time this season, but they haven’t been able to stretch the previous streaks to seven.

Wednesday will mark the second meeting in the past five days between the Warriors and Hitmen with Moose Jaw winning 5-3 in Calgary last Friday.  That win was a part of a sweep of their three-game Alberta road trip last week for the Warriors.

“It went really well, we stuck to our game plan throughout the whole weekend and we played a very strong game as a team,” said defenceman Josh Brook.

“We’ve had good starts lately and as we get going we get better and better throughout the game, and that’s how the season has went too, we’ve gotten better and better as we’ve built chemistry, so it’s been good.”

This is the final meeting of the season between the Warriors and Hitmen. Moose Jaw has won all three previous meetings.

Jeannot said they have learned not to take teams that they’ve had previous success against lightly.

“Every team is good in this league no matter what trades they’ve made and if you’re not coming out ready to go every night, you can lose any game, so we’re going to be focused and come out strong,” said Jeannot.

The Warriors and Hitmen face-off at 7 p.m. Wednesday night. The Pre-Game Show will be on the air at 6:40 p.m. on Country 100.
