Winter is coming, and when the snow and cold temperatures hit it might be a good idea to switch over to your winter tires.

Not only do winter tires help with confidence on the road, but they also provide greater traction on ice and snow which all lead to fewer winter accidents.

John Laterveer is the owner of Fountain Tire Moose Jaw, he explained when you should make the switch.

"I think a person should change to winter tires about this time of year starting in October. It's a good thing too get them on a little bit before the snow hits, it's good for the tires nothing wrong with it, and that way you're prepared."

Laterveer also highlighted the benefits of winter tires.

"Winter tires give you a lot more confidence with winter driving. In my personal experience, they do give you a lot better traction on icy roads, at stoplights, stop signs, and on the highway. When the snow does fly and when you wake up in the morning and there is a lot of snow on the ground, you're prepared and you can drive very nicely."

Laterveer also mentioned that it's a good idea to leave your winter tires on a little past the snow just in case another snowfall should occur.
