The Moose Jaw High School football regular season is over, and the last regular season game at Gutheridge Field was a barn burner.

Yorkton's fourth quarter field goal game them a 19-16 win over the Central Cyclones in a battle for first place.

Cyclones head coach Colin Belsher was happy with the way the defence held off the charge of the high-flying Raiders

“Our boys fought well,” he said. “Yorkton’s a good team and they always bring a good fight. I thought we stood toe to toe with them for most of the game. When you’re on the field that long as a defence, and the defence played really well. On offence, we played well at times. Playoffs are around the corner and we knew we were in the playoffs regardless and so now we just move forward and now we know it’s Swift Current.”

Ryan Vincent ran in one of the first half Central touchdowns and the other was on a long catch and run from Kaleb Schanoski.

Peacock, meanwhile, lost 37-7 to the visiting Swift Current Colts. Tornadoes head coach Bert Redstone said the focus going forward is that there's work to do, and this season is hopefully a learning experience for the younger players.

“We’ve got a small group of Grade 12s, and a lot of guys coming back, so hopefully they can see that, what it means to these guys that have put the time in, and think that ‘Man, maybe I don’t want that to be me next year’,” said Redstone. “With a big group of Grade 11s coming back, all you can hope is that they take this going forward and they want to get better. Hopefully that’s the mentality.”

Hayden Tollefson scored Peacock’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.

In the other game Saturday, Swift Current thumped Estevan 55-26.

Central will host Swift Current Saturday at Gutheridge Field in the first round of the playoffs, with the winner to battle the winner of Yorkton and Weyburn for the city title Nov. 2.

In the Tier II playoffs, Estevan hosts Vanier with the winner to face Peacock, also Nov. 2.
