The Moose Jaw 18U AAA Canucks kicked off their season Wednesday in Regina against the Athletics but they didn't get the results they were looking for.

A late surge gave the Athletics a 13-8 victory.

Kaedyn Banilevic led that way at-bat for Moose Jaw, going three-for-four at the plate with three RBIs.

Pitching was by committee with Kaleb Waller going three innings. Kyle Duncan took the mound for a pair of innings and Nathan Varjassy got one inning of work.

The Athletics would jump out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, but the Canucks would rebound in the top of the fifth to tie up the game.

Regina would reply with three more runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-5 lead.

Moose Jaw would knot the game at 8-8 in the top of the sixth, but five runs by the Athletics in the bottom of the sixth gave Regina the victory.

The 18U AAA Canucks are back in action with a doubleheader on Sunday at Ross Wells Park when they host the Saskatoon Giants. Game times are noon and 3 p.m.
