A three-goal second period lifted the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 5-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders last night at the Subway WHL Hub in Regina.

1:20 into the game, a Warriors defenseman could not control the puck at the Raiders blueline.  That allowed Evan Herman to jump on a loose puck and drive up the ice where he scored the game’s first goal.

As the period went on, the Warriors fought to create quality scoring chances at the Raiders net.  At 12:55, Atley Calvert got a shot from the right Raider boards, Riley Krane was able to snap in the rebound, his third goal of the season tied the game at one.

Six and a half minutes into the middle period, the Raiders took back-to-back penalties which gave the Warriors 1:17 to work on a two-man advantage.  On the 5-on-3, Brad Ginnell took a shot between the circles, Tate Popple jammed in the rebound, his sixth of the season gave Moose Jaw a 2-1 lead.

Just past the ten-minute mark of the period, Max Wanner took a shot from the middle of the Raider blueline.  17-year-old rookie Josh Hoekstra was able to deflect the puck past goalie Carter Serhyenko for his second of the season.

Moose Jaw added to their lead with under three minutes left in the period when Eric Alarie scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season to make it 4-1.

Prince Albert pounded the puck on the Moose Jaw net throughout the third period.  They outshot the Warriors 16-2 in the period, but rookie goalie Brett Mirwald kept them off the scoreboard.

With three minutes left in the game, 15-year-old Brayden Yager burst down the Raiders' left boards and then blew past a defenceman.  He was able to snap a shot from inside the left circle past the glove of Serhyenko for his seventh of the season.

Inside the final minute of regulation and with Prince Albert on the man-advantage, the Raiders picked up a power-play goal but it was too little too late.

Josh Hoekstra led the Warriors with a goal and two points, Captain Daemon Hunt picked up two assists, and Mirwald finished with 29 saves.

Moose Jaw was 1-for-4 on the power-play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The final week of the regular season continues Wednesday night with the Warriors' final meeting of the season against Peyton Krebs and the Winnipeg ICE.  All the action can be heard on Country 100 starting with the PreGame Show at 7:40 pm.

From there, the guys will battle Regina on Friday, Swift Current on Sunday, and then close out the season next Monday against Saskatoon.
