The Avonlea Eagles are on top for the second straight year in the Moose Jaw High School Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball League.

Avonlea knocked off the top-ranked Central Butte Bulldogs in two sets (25-22, 25-13) in the final on Tuesday night at Riverview Collegiate.

"It feels amazing, we worked so hard for [the second straight championship]," said Avonlea senior Leeah Earl.

The Eagles had a number of players return from last year’s championship team and they were able to carry over that success.

Earl said this year’s team is on the same level as last year’s Avonlea squad, "We’re pretty comparable to last year, we work hard together and we work well together," she said.

"When we’re all playing together and positive, that really gets us pumped and winning."

The Eagles advanced into the final with a three-set win (25-22, 11-25, 15-13) over the third place Rouleau Rebels in the semifinal on Tuesday.

The other semifinal saw the Bulldogs cruise to a two-set win (25-8, 25-16) over the fourth place Riverview Royals.

"We had our serves working, our hitting was just on and we were working all together as a team well," said Earl on their strong night.

The Moose Jaw High School Junior Girls Volleyball League will crown its champion on Thursday night at Peacock Collegiate. The quarterfinals open the night at 6:20 p.m. and the final is set for approximately 8:20 p.m.
