The Moose Jaw Little League went ahead with its 2020 season in several age divisions to great success.

As most teams finish their seasons this week, Moose Jaw Little League President Tony Dreger said there are no qualms about playing their games this late into August.

“We’re just very lucky to be able to get baseball in and be able to play with all this COVID stuff going on, so we’re just excited to be able to play baseball,” he said. “The amount of games we got in is exciting and it just gives the kids something to do.”

There were five teams in the senior rookie league, and three teams in the junior rookie league. The Minor AA league had five teams and the Minor AAA had the Moose Jaw Miller Express in one league and the Blue Jays and A’s were in the Major AA circuit. The Giants and Diamondbacks were the two teams in the city’s Intermediate/Junior/Senior league, but a combined team played in the North Regina league.

Dreger was pleased to see the season go ahead, and it was smiles all around recently even though the Major AA Blue Jays team he coached lost their last game.

“Some of the kids want to keep going and keep playing,” he said. “But it’s getting dark fast. We got our 12, 13 games in, so we’re just excited that the kids wanted to be here and fought right through, so that was exciting.”

Some teams in a league with North Regina teams will be playing their playoffs into September.
