The coaching carousel has been working overtime in the WHL’s East Division this week with a pair of coaches leaving for the professional ranks.

First up was Mark Lamb leaving the Swift Current Broncos after seven seasons as the team’s head coach and general manager.  He took the head coaching position with the Arizona Coyotes’ AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners.

During his seven seasons in Swift Current, Lamb led the Broncos to the playoffs four times, but never further than the first round.  Swift Current posted a 222-226-46 record with Lamb behind the bench.

No replacement has been named as of yet.  Click here to read more on this story.

The next move came north of Moose Jaw on Thursday in Saskatoon as Bob Woods left the Blades to take a job as an assistant coach under Dan Bylsma with the Buffalo Sabres.

Woods served as head coach and general manager of the Blades for the past two seasons, posting a 45-91-8 record.

The Blades announced that they have named Dean Brockman as the team’s new head coach.  He served the past two seasons as an assistant under Woods, before that he coached the Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL for 17 seasons.

Colin Priestner, son of Blades’ owner Mike Priestner, will take over as the team’s general manager.  He has no previous experience in the role, but worked with the team’s front office over the past two seasons.

The Blades also promoted Steve Hildebrand from Assistant GM to Association GM.
