A slow start to the season didn't stop the Colts from continuing their reign on top of the Moose Jaw Senior Ladies Fastball League.

The Colts got hot over the second half of the season and came away with the league title thanks to a sweep of the Hustlers, which they finished off with a pair of wins on Wednesday night at Caribou Heights.

The turning point in the season for the Colts came at the Moose Jaw tournament when they finished in second place and were really able to find their game.

“We struggled a little bit at the start and came together a bit as a team at the tournament and realized where we were lacking some skill in areas, but we picked it up after that and came through,” said first baseman Jasmine Jackman.

This is the fourth straight league title for the Colts and Jackman credits their team chemistry for their success.

“We're pretty much the same team year-after-year, we do bring a few new ones on every year, but our core group is always there and we know how to play, where we're playing, we know where to back each other up and pick each other up when needed,” she said.

After taking game one 7-0 on Monday night and getting rained out on Tuesday, the Colts were given a test by the Hustlers in game two to start the night on Wednesday, narrowly pulling out a 2-1 win.

It was back to the same story as game one in game three however with the Colts rolling to a 7-0 win to clinch the league title.

“The first game really showcased what both teams are capable of doing, that's pretty much what we saw all season with them, they came out wanting to win and we were just lucky enough to come out on top tonight,” said Jackman.

The Colts started slow in the first game of the night on Wednesday, but were able to carry the momentum gained late into a quick start in the second game.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning of the first game, they scored once in the second and once in the fourth for the win.

In the second game, they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two and then tacked on one in the third and two in the fourth to end the game early.

“Back-to-back you're able to keep that momentum going and we were able to do that tonight,” said Jackman, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the second game.

Pitching was the biggest key in both games for the Colts.

Sandi Gray went seven innings, allowing just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts and just one walk to pick up the win in the first game, while Kim Neithercut threw five shutout innings in the second game with five hits against, two strikeouts and no walks.

Taylor Phillips threw the complete game in the first loss for the Hustlers, giving up just two runs on seven hits. She struck out two and walked four.

In the second game, Rachelle Grado got the start and surrendered seven runs on 11 hits with two walks and one strikeout over 3 2/3 innings. Jana Gallant got the final out.
