Seven local high school basketball teams travelled to Prince Albert this weekend and five of them are coming back with medals from Hoopla 2018.

Three teams played for provincial championships on Saturday, but ended up falling short in the end.

The Central Cyclones dropped a 98-76 game to the Weyburn Eagles in the 4A boys championship game.

Jaxon Brownell had 12 points to lead the way for the Cyclones, while Walker Happ scored 34 points in the win for the Eagles.

In the 4A boys bronze medal game, the Peacock Toilers secured a 74-68 victory over the Vanier Vikings to finish the year with a win.

Jett Kowalchuk led Peacock with 17 points in the win, while Ronald Nyekowat picked up 25 points for Vanier in the loss.

Both Caronport Cougars teams were playing for a provincial championship on Saturday.

The Cougar boys team lost 100-84 to St. Brieux in the 2A boys championship game. 

Caronport’s Breighdy Banerjee picked up 35 points in the loss, while Arjhay Aguilar answered with 42 points in the win for St. Brieux.

In the 3A girls championship game, the Cougars fell 72-60 to Regina Christian.

Rachelle Kinele picked up 13 points in the loss for Caronport.

In the 4A girls division, both Central and Peacock suffered semifinal losses on Friday, which meant that they would meet for bronze on Saturday.

The Toilers led 40-22 at halftime, but pulled away from the Cyclones for a 90-43 win in the bronze medal game.

Anna Maelde scored 29 points for the Toilers in the win, while Alexa Watterson picked up 10 points in loss for Central.
