The Moose Jaw Kinsmen Flying Fins Swim Club had a pair of successful meets in Saskatoon over the weekend.

Fins head coach Gord Sheilds talked about one of the meets, the Goldfin Invitational.

“They swum about 70 per cent personal best times,” Shields said of that meet, which was for some of their more experienced swimmers. Fifteen of them went to this event.

Mateah Purdy was the female swimmer of the meet, he said, and Keaton Clark was the male swimmer of the meet, and Rebekah Wright had the swim of the meet for the 200 IM

“Again, just showing improvement in all four strokes and taking off about 24 seconds,” he said.

Shields said some of the older swimmers will be starting to focus and specialize on certain swims and distances.

“Now that we’re through (that) phase, working on all the strokes, the older ones will start to look at specializing in main events,” he said. “Some of them are trying to qulify for Olympic trials.”

Cadence Johns has qualified for Olympic trials already and Shields will be looking for the potential for some other swimmers to qualify for those as well. Specialization is also for championship meets in March and April.

Shields said there was also a skills meet for the younger swimmers. Thirteen of their swimmers went to that meet, and Shields said that all of the swimmers demonstrated continued development in their technizque.

Molly Mack was the female swimmer of the meet, Rowan Gray was the male swimmer of the meet and Julia Zinn had the swim of the meet in the 50 free.

After a month of training coming up, Shields said their next big meet will be Dec. 13-15 at the Kinsmen Sportsplex.
