The Moose Jaw Generals found themselves on the losing end in their regular season opener on Saturday night.

The Generals went into the Bridge City and came out with a 3-1 loss to the Saskatoon Contacts in the kickoff to the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League for the local squad.

Caleb Reiss had the lone goal for Moose Jaw, coming late in the third period with the team down 3-0. Second-year goalie Colby Entz turned in a strong performance in the opener, making 34 saves on 37 shots in the loss.

The two teams battled through a tight first period with Moose Jaw outshooting Saskatoon 10-8, but they couldn't find the back of the net.

The Contacts opened the scoring early in the second period when Jimmy Lambert scored on the power play, just under five minutes into the frame. Lambert picked up his second of the night later in the frame and Saskatoon took a 2-0 lead into the break.

They added some more insurance early in the third with another power play goal, this one coming from Garrett Pilon. Reiss broke up Declan Hobbs' shutout bid with 3:40 to go in the third.

The Generals have a busy week ahead now as they will head to Wilcox to face the Notre Dame Argos on Thursday night and then host the Contacts on Saturday and the Prince Albert Mintos on Sunday at Mosaic Place.
