Cody Davis scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Moose Jaw Generals to an important win in their push for a playoff spot.

The Generals edged the Notre Dame Argos, 5-4, during Wednesday night action in the Saskatchewan Midget 'AAA' Hockey League at the Duncan McNeill Arena.

The win moves the Generals eight points back of the idle Saskatoon Contacts with four games to play in the regular season. Moose Jaw will host the Contacts at Mosaic Place on Saturday.

Ben Wourms-Rowe scored twice during regulation for the Generals on Wednesday, while Casey McDonald finished with a goal and two points, and Davis added two assists to go along with his shootout winner.

McDonald opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal midway through the first period.

Wourms-Rowe made it 2-0 for the Generals with a power-play goal early in the second period, but the controlled the rest of the frame, outshooting the Generals 15-8 and picking up two goals from Wyatt Hickok to tie the game.

Notre Dame moved in front for the first time on the night with a power-play goal from Noah Altwasser midway through the third. Jett Arminen put the Argos ahead by two only four minutes later.

Moose Jaw dug down deep in the final two minutes of regulation with their season on the line. Wourms-Rowe scored his second of the game to pull the Generals within one with 1:35 to play and then Steven Kesslering potted the game-tying goal with 20 seconds left in regulation.

Reece Hodson stopped 30 shots during regulation and overtime and then turned away all three of the Argos' shooters in the shootout to give Moose Jaw the win.

The Generals have a three-in-three this weekend. They host the Contacts on Saturday and then the Battlefords Stars on Sunday before travelling to Saskatoon to face the Contacts on Monday.
