The Moose Jaw Warriors erased an early two-goal deficit and fought their way to a 4-3 overtime win on Friday over the Swift Current Broncos at the Credit Union Iplex.

20-year-old forward Tristin Langan scored his 25th and 26th goals of the season, including the overtime winner to lead the Warriors to the win.

"We didn't have a great first period, but we talked about it in the room, we came out in the second and third and we were getting opportunities and we just stuck to it and pucks started to go in," said Langan, who leads the Warriors with 59 points in 32 games this season.

Associate coach Mark O'Leary credited the Warriors with staying with the game plan despite their slow start.

"We don't make it easy on ourselves, that's for sure, there's no excuse for the way that we started the game, and we'll take responsibility for that, but at the end of the day, we again show our resiliency," said O’Leary. "I thought once we got our legs under us today, we were a much different team, stuck with it and came away with two big points."

Swift Current snagged the game's first goal at 1:27 when Ethan Regnier found the back of the net and then they went up 2-0 at 5:26 as Alec Zawatsky finished a goal-mouth scramble.

Moose Jaw found life inside the final minute of the opening period. With 18 seconds left in the frame, Jett Woo broke up a Broncos clearing attempt inside their zone and then moved the puck to Daemon Hunt at the left point. The 16-year-old defenceman skated to the top of the circle and then snapped the puck past the glove of Broncos goalie Joel Hofer for his fourth of the season to make it 2-1.

Down a goal to start the second, the Warriors came flying out of the gates and just 41 seconds into the period, Langan had the puck below the Broncos goal line and then tossed it to the top of the crease where Justin Almeida punched in his ninth of the season to tie the game at two.

Swift Current took a 3-2 lead at 10:31 when Matthew Culling picked up a loose puck on a broken play beside the Warriors net.

With just over four minutes left in the frame, the Warriors went back to work. Langan won a face-off in the right Swift Current circle to Almeida on the right wing, he did a great job handling the puck and avoiding the Broncos pressure, which allowed him to play the puck back down the boards for Langan, who stepped off the right boards and snapped a shot past the blocker of Hofer. His team-leading 25th goal tied the game at three.

Throughout the third period, both teams produced moments that would have allowed them to take control of the game but neither team was able to capitalize which meant for the second straight night these rivals would head to overtime.

Moose Jaw caught a break two minutes into the extra period when Luke Ormsby drove near the Broncos net and was hooked down by Tanner Nagel, which put the Warriors on the man-advantage.

As the Warriors worked the puck around the Broncos zone half-way through overtime, they put the puck towards the net where Langan picked up a rebound and scored his second of the night to give Moose Jaw the win.

Langan finished with two goals and three points, Almeida had a goal and three points, Woo picked up two assists, and Adam Evanoff made 24 saves.

"He made some saves when he needed to and at the end of the day, that's the biggest thing for a goaltender, sometimes it's not how many saves, but when you make them and the manner you do it," said O’Leary on Evanoff in the win.

The Warriors outshot the Broncos 39-27. They were 1-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors will have Saturday off to recharge their batteries and get ready for a home-and-home series with the Brandon Wheat Kings to finish off 2018.

Moose Jaw starts the series sitting six points ahead of Brandon for third place in the East Division.
