Kael Nichols took a lead pass off the opening face-off, walked in on the Regina Inferno net, rifled a shot into the twine and the Moose Jaw Midget Mustangs were off and running on Monday night.

Nichols' goal came just 13 seconds into the game and the Mustangs rolled to an 8-2 win after that in their home opener at Mosaic Place in the South Saskatchewan Lacrosse League.

"It was pretty good… We had a pretty good offence, our defence was all right, but we need to improve on some other stuff like our offence in the sense of more emotion, talking and teamwork," said Blake Butler, who had a goal in the win for the Mustangs.

After the quick start, the Mustangs never let up, scoring four times in the first period, once in the second and then they added three more goals in the third.

"You can't really relax because that's how they start to score, you need to keep up your pace and make sure you're going the whole time," said Butler. "We didn't do too bad at that, they had a couple of goals from way outside the box."

Nichols paced the attack for the Mustangs with four goals, while Jake Williams picked up a pair of markers. Brydon Bell also added a goal and three points, Kirk Mullen and Atley Calvert had two assists each in the win.

Regina goalie Ryan Ford made some key saves to keep the Inferno in the game early on, but the Mustangs continued to fire away offensively to pull away for the win.

Moose Jaw is now off to a 2-0 start to this season. "I feel like we're going to be one of the top teams, we've got some good players with a lot of skill," said Butler.

The Mustangs return to the court next Wednesday when they travel to Weyburn to square off with the Thrashers.
