Long-time Moose Jaw Umpire Rocky Nickel will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Nickel has been an umpire in Saskatchewan since 1992 and served nearly 30 years with the provincial umpire executive committee.

He spent two terms as the provincial supervisor from 1995 to 2001 and 2008 to 2016. Between those two terms, Nickel served as the assistant supervisor.

Nickel was instrumental in founding the Western Major Baseball League Umpire Association.

But Nickel’s contributions went beyond the local ball diamonds. On the international stage, Nickel worked the 2002 World Youth Championships and the 2005 World Qualifier.

In 2016, Nickel was named the winner of the Male Official Award by Sask. Sport.
