Luke Ormsby made an immediate impact in his debut with the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old forward scored his fourth goal of the season and showed his versatility by jumping up from the third line to the Warriors' top line during the game.

"It feels awesome [to be in Moose Jaw], there's a great group of guys [in the locker room], a good program here, so I'm excited and it should be lots of fun," said Ormsby.

Moose Jaw acquired Ormsby from his hometown Everett Silvertips on Monday as part of a pair of deals to start the week and add to the team's forward depth.

Ormsby found out about the trade while he was driving home from practice. He didn't know much about Moose Jaw or the Warriors outside of the games that he's played against them.

"I knew that they were really good last year and every time we've played here, they were hard to play against, so knowing that going in is a good feeling, being hard to play against is always the biggest compliment you can get," said Ormsby.

The trait that was most attractive to the Warriors about Ormsby is the fact that he's suited up in the past two WHL Championship Series, winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2017 with the Seattle Thunderbirds and losing in the final last season with Everett.

Ormsby sharing what he learned during those championship runs will be key for the young Warrior squad.

"Not a ton of people get to go through finals and all that stuff, there's a lot that goes on with that and I look to bring that experience here," he said.

"You win one and you lose one, so you see both sides there and you know what it takes to win and when you need to push a little more to get over that hump, so being able to compare and contrast is huge."

The Warriors are hoping that Ormsby can add to their already strong leadership group, while also fitting into the style of play that they've established through the first 27 games of the season.

Ormsby feels that his style will mesh well with what the Warriors like to do, "Speed is a staple of my game, I pride myself on being physical, being first on every puck and every shift, playing to 100-percent of my ability, so I look to bring that and more here," he said.

"It's a good team here, you have [Justin] Almeida and [Tristin] Langan, two top-end players, a lot of good young guys and that's always a good feeling to have when you have a good group, good guys and a good leadership group too with Brook," added Ormsby.

Orsmby and the Warriors have a big weekend ahead as they meet the Saskatoon Blades for a home-and-home set.

Just two points separate the third-place Warriors from the second-place Blades in the East Division standings. However, Moose Jaw does have three games in hand.

The Warriors and Blades face-off on Friday night in the Bridge City and then again on Saturday night at Mosaic Place. You can catch all the action live on Country 100, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m. both nights.
