It didn't take the Saskatchewan Roughriders long to figure out if defensive lineman Mike McAdoo fit into the organization.

After trading for the six-foot-seven McAdoo last week in a deal that sent receiver Ricky Collins Jr. to Hamilton, the Riders decided to release the defensive lineman on Monday.

Saskatchewan will return to the practice field on Wednesday to begin preparing for their Labour Day Classic match-up with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

In other CFL news, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats backtracked on their controversial hiring of Art Briles.

Hamilton hired the former Baylor University head coach as an assistant offence head coach on Monday, but the hiring was met with a lot of backlash on social media, leading to the league and team issuing a joint statement later in the day, which read: “We came to this decision this evening following a lengthy discussion between the league and the Hamilton organization. We wish Mr. Briles all the best in his future endeavours.”

Ti-Cats owner Bob Young also released a statement saying, “We made a large and serious mistake. We want to apologize to our fans, corporate partners and the Canadian Football League. It has been a difficult season and we are searching for answers. This is clearly not one of them.”

Briles was fired from Baylor last year after an investigation discovered the school failed to respond to numerous sexual assault allegations against football players and other athletes.
