The Moose Jaw Warriors returned from the Christmas break with a bang on Sunday afternoon in Swift Current.

Zach Sawchenko made 35 saves for his first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over the Broncos at the Credit Union Iplex.

Dryden Hunt led the attack offensively for the Warriors with a goal and three points, while Tanner Faith finished with two assists to help the Tribe to their second straight win.

It was the play of Sawchenko early that gave the Warriors the boost that they needed for the win however.  The Broncos came out firing early in the first period, but Sawchenko turned them away at every stop, keeping the game scoreless with 14 saves in the opening frame.

Moose Jaw found their legs as the first period went on, but couldn’t find the back of the net.  That changed a minute into the second period when Hunt broke down the wing and his shot squeaked through the legs of Travis Child to open the scoring.

The Warriors continued to get stronger as the period went on and they were rewarded with a power play goal from Josh Brook with just under five minutes left in the frame to make it 2-0 at the second intermission.

The third period was much of the same for the Warriors with Sawchenko standing tall and the offence clicking for Moose Jaw.

Tanner Jeannot made it 3-0 with a highlight reel goal 5:19 into the third period as he burst down the wing and riffled a shot over the shoulder of Child.

That was the end of the night for Child after he allowed three goals on 23 shots.  Landon Bow didn’t fare much better though as the Warriors struck just 1:36 later as Noah Gregor followed up his own shot and buried the rebound for his 15th of the season.

That was all the scoring the Warriors would need as they played a solid final 20 minutes to seal the win.

The Tribe were 1-for-4 on the power play and a stellar 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors will look to secure their third straight win when they’re back on the ice on Tuesday in Brandon to take on the Wheat Kings. The next home game for Moose Jaw is on New Year’s Eve when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers.
