The Moose Jaw Warriors will be well represented on Team WHL next month.

Warriors head coach Tim Hunter will be serving as the head coach for the third straight season, while captain Josh Brook, forward Justin Almeida, and defenceman Jett Woo were named to the team on Wednesday.

"I’m excited to go with the boys and it’s just a very exciting accomplishment," said Brook after practice at Mosaic Place on Wednesday.

The four Warriors will represent the Western Hockey League against the Russians in the 2018 Canada Russia Series, which goes on Nov. 5 in Kamloops and Nov. 6 in Vancouver.

This will be the first time that all three players will have the opportunity to play in the annual six-game series across the Canadian Hockey League.

"With Josh Brook and Jett Woo coming with our team, it’s an exciting time and it’s going to be a fun experience," said Almeida, who’s tied for the Warriors’ lead in scoring with 16 points in eight games.

Almeida is looking forward to the opportunity to prove himself against the best in the league during this next step in the process to earn an invite to Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp in December.

"Anytime you get to play against or with the best players in your league and Team Russia, it’s always nice to see how you size up and what you need to work on and I’m just going to show my stuff," said Almeida.

All three players received invites to the World Junior Summer Showcase, while Woo was on the only player able to participate on the ice as Almeida and Brook were limited to the stands with injuries.

Brook said it’s nice to have another opportunity to prove that he belongs on this year’s team, "I don’t think a lot of them have seen me at 100-percent for a while, so it’s a good chance for me to show my stuff," he said.

"I’m going to play my game, play the way that I have all season and just try to be the most effective that I can be in the defensive zone and chip in offensively if I can."

Brook has been off to a stellar start at both ends of the ice for the Warriors with four goals and 11 points in seven games.

Woo was forced to sit out the Warriors’ first four games of the season, but he’s made a smashing start to the year with a goal and two points to go along with a number of bone-crunching hits.

The 18-year-old defenceman said he’s prepared to show what he’s capable of against the Russians, "I remember coming to game [in Moose Jaw] last year and seeing all the skill and speed, so for myself to be named to the roster, I’m really excited and I’m ready to go out and play," said Woo.

"The one thing that I know going into camps is to just play my game and know that I’m there for a reason, I’m there because I play my style of hockey and I’m just going to go there, play my game, and not try to do anything that I can’t do."

This is the first time since 2015 that the Warriors have had multiple players invited to play in the series. Moose Jaw, Lethbridge and Prince Albert all led the way with three players selected for the games.
