Week5Preview-Peacock-Sept27Peacock's defence swarms Estevan running back Kaleb Memory.

The Peacock Tornadoes are getting stronger and stronger with each game as they look to keep pace with Central and Yorkton at the top of the High School Football standings.  Peacock goes for their second straight win this week when they take on the Swift Current Colts.

Head coach Blake Buettner says he can see confidence building on his team, "We're still kind of going through some execution issues and things like that, but the only way their going to learn is to get them on the field.  I thought we've made some progress over the last couple of games and we're happy with that progress."

Peacock steamrolled Vanier last Saturday 34-0 at Gutheridge Field to improve to 2-1.  The game featured the return of Nathan Fall to the Tornadoes backfield and he had a big day, rushing for 214 yards.  That addition allowed Peacock to have a more balanced offensive attack in the win.

Buettner says the turning point for their offence this season has been with the improved play of their offensive line, "You want to be good at both, running and passing the ball, so ya Nathan had a really good game, which is great, but you have to give credit to our offensive line as well, they played a very solid game, and they're starting to gel as well, so that helps."

When you talk about a shut out though, praise has to go to the defence and Peacock's D played a great game against Vanier, limiting the Vikings offence to just 51 yards on the day.

"They were very prepared last weekend and to do what they did on defence really helps you on offence as well," said Buettner during practice at Memorial Field this week.  "They played great statistically and they just played a real attack style of defence and that's what we want to see."

Friday's game is big for both the Tornadoes and the Colts as they both come in with 2-1 records and tied for third place in the league at the midway point of the season.  The winner will also vault into a tie for second place with the loser of Central and Yorkton's first place showdown.

Buettner says they're expecting Swift Current to come in and try to steal one from them at Gutheridge, "They're big up front and they've got some good athletes, so we're preparing like we do every week and just try to play to our strengths.  They're a very good team."

Peacock will host Swift Current on Friday afternoon at Gutheridge Field.  Kick-off is at 4:00pm.  Other Week 5 games in the High School Football League include the first place battle between 3-0 Central and 3-0 Yorkton under the lights in Yorkton on Friday night and Vanier traveling to Estevan on Saturday afternoon.
