The final is set in the Moose Jaw High School Girls Soccer League after the last two Moose Jaw teams standing were eliminated on Thursday.

The second place Central Cyclones lost 1-0 to the third place Weyburn Eagles, while the fourth place Vanier Spirits dropped a 5-0 game to the first place Swift Current Ardens in a pair of semifinal match-ups at the Sunningdale Soccer Fields.

“We had our chances and it was still a good game despite the loss,” said Central's Naomi Hysuick. “We need to finish the balls that we give ourselves the opportunity on. It was a loss, but it was still a gain in terms of working on skills and technique.”

Laryssa Hoffman scored in the first half for the Eagles and they were able to hold off the Cyclones from there to take the slim win.

“I love playing against Central, you're guaranteed to have a great game no matter what,” said Jacquie Vandewdestyne.

“Our team is finally coming together, they've melded together and they came here to play.”

The Eagles will have a tough test in the final as the six-time defending champion Ardens bring a lot of fire power. They were given a good test by the Spirits in their semifinal game on Thursday however.

“I want to give a huge amount of credit to Jason (Jones) and the Vanier girls, they played us tough from the beginning and I knew they would,” said Swift Current head coach Dale Perry.

“They have a very well coached team that's balanced and has the opportunity to hit you and if they hit us early, I was afraid that if they got one on us early, they could just back in and just lock the doors and take a 1-0 win. We got an early one, but it took forever to get the second one.”

Ali Vance and Jade Addai scored in the first half for Swift Current and then Addai added three more markers in the second half to secure the win.

“We've talked all season about not giving up a goal in the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of the first half and three of their goals came in the first ten and the last ten,” said Vanier head coach Jason Jones.

“This is kind of where we expected to be, but from an effort stand point, we created some chances, we had a couple of opportunities, especially in the first half. We kept the game close, which is what we wanted to do.”

The season isn't over for Vanier and Central, as well as Peacock, as they will all be back on the field next weekend for the 2A regional championship here in Moose Jaw.

The league final between Swift Current and Weyburn is set for next Tuesday at the Sunningdale Soccer Field.
