Brayden Tracey's dream came true on Friday night as the Moose Jaw Warriors forward was selected 29th overall by the Anaheim Ducks at the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver.

Tracey becomes the first Warrior selected in the first round since Brett Howden went 27th overall in 2016.

Originally the 21st overall pick by the Warriors in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft. Tracey posted 36 goals and 81 points, which led all rookies in the CHL, during 66 games as a rookie with the Warriors this season. He won the WHL Rookie of the Year award and was a finalist for the CHL honour.

Tracey is the first Warrior to be drafted by the Ducks organization.

There were seven WHL players in total selected during the first round on Friday night, led by Saskatoon Blades forward Kirby Dach at third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. 

Vancouver Giants defenceman Bowen Byram went to Colorado with the fourth pick, Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Dylan Cozens was taken seventh overall by Buffalo, Winnipeg Ice forward Peyton Krebs went to Vegas with the 17th overall pick, Kelowna Rockets forward Lassi Thomson was picked 19th by Ottawa, and Rockets forward Nolan Foote went to Tampa Bay with the 27th overall pick.

The draft continues on Saturday with rounds two through seven. Moose Jaw's Reece Newkirk of the Portland Winterhawks could be selected on day two.
