On Saturday, not too far west of Moose Jaw, festivities rocked the nearby village with the celebration of Caronport Day. The day included dozens of activities and a parade through the small town, with cars, tractors, vans, dancers from the group Refined Undignified, pony-pulled carts, RCMP, and Zumba participants among many more.

Joelle Epp, a volunteer with the Caronport Rec Board and organizer with the parade, explained why the event is so important for their community.

"We're celebrating our little village, we're excited to do a fundraiser for the Caronport Rec Board, and keep the local sports programs that we offer here in town affordable and accessible to as many people as possible, so an event like this we can collect funds, and raise support, and build community, so we can keep doing programs like this."

Epp went on to list the many activities going on throughout the day, and long into the night.

"So today at Caronport Day we started off with a runt run for the kids, a shorter race, and then a five-kilometre for the adults or youth that wanted to run that, and we had a community walk, and then from there, we've got a parade, we've got a kids zone with face painting and bouncy castles and princesses, and dunk tank, we've got live music, we've got a community barbeque, we have youth games in the afternoon, basketball and ball hockey, and the evening we have a drive-in movie theatre, where kids have made little boxcars,"

Along with all the sports and fun, live music shook the town with performances from multiple bands, as explained by Epp.

"So we've got [Kindermusik with Naturally Abby’s Music Studio] who is doing a drum circle, we have Jade Sommerfeld, a local who is going to do an acoustic set, and then we have a band from Calgary called the NewLaw Brothers that are going to be performing, we're very excited to have them here."

Caronport Day went on successfully, bringing the entire community together, and looks to return for next year.
