A 29-year-old woman from Moose Jaw is facing several impaired driving charges in Regina, including five hit-and-run charges

On Oct. 22, there were a series of accidents in Regina that caused damage to five vehicles as well as the suspect’s vehicle.

Regina police were initially called to a two-vehicle accident at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 22 in the west-bound lanes of 12th Avenue and Rose Street. Police say a Chrysler 200 came into contact with a garbage truck that was stopped at the red light.

The driver of the Chrysler did not exit the vehicle and was found asleep at the wheel. She could not be wakened from police officers banging on the window, so officers broke the back window to check on her.

Regina Police say it took physical contact from the officers to wake her up, but still would not leave the vehicle. The driver then drove forward and then reversed into a police car and a City of Regina truck before fleeing.

Regina Police then received a report of the same vehicle hitting a car parked in the 1800 block of Smith Street.

A police supervisor vehicle tried to pull the vehicle over, but before the officer could exit their vehicle, the suspect reversed into the police vehicle and left the scene.

A canine unit vehicle was able to follow the suspect until a spike belt could be put out. The car was stopped on the 2100 block of Retallack Street and the driver was arrested.

Ashley Lynn Sugar of Moose Jaw is charged with impaired driving and having a blood-alcohol level over .08, five charges of hit-and-run and two charges of evading police.

Sugar will make her first court appearance on Nov. 17 in provincial court.

No one was injured in the accidents.
