SGI released the results of May’s Traffic Safety Spotlight.

Last month's focus was on drivers failing to stop at stop signs or red lights, or failing to yield at yield signs or uncontrolled intersections.

451 tickets were issued for offences related to the Safety Spotlight. Tickets for offences of failing to stop or yield are $230, accompanied by four demerits.

SGI says almost half of all collisions take place at an intersection.

Additional offences recorded by police in May included:

-459 offences for impaired driving

-353 offences related to seatbelts and car seats

-604 offences related to distracted driving (505 for cell phone use)

-4,155 offences related to speeding/driving aggressively

June’s SGI Safety Spotlight is focusing on leaving a three-second following distance.
