It may seem like it's too early to head back to school but for most Vanier students, the timing is right.

Vanier Collegiate operates under an alternative calendar which means they finish school early in the spring and head back in mid August.  Principal Shannon Pearce says Thursday's focus is to ease the students back into things.

"The first day of school will start with a general assembly, then they have a dry run in the morning where they go to all of the classes on their schedule and meet the teachers to find out their expectations and what they need for materials. They get the afternoon off and then they start full swing on Friday."

Pearce says there are a number of changes this year including new staff, a new football field and new indoor improvements like air conditioning and flooring.

Holy Trinity Elementary students are back to class on the 26th.
