Throughout the entire month of December, Moose Jaw Families for Change and Heritage Insurance want to wrap your Christmas gifts.

Together the pair created a brand new initiative called Christmas For A Cause that will see volunteers wrapping gifts two days a week until the end of the holiday season and collecting donations.

Katie Statler, Community Coordinator for Families for Change detailed how the partnership between their organization and an insurance agency came to fruition.

"Quite honestly, we just looked at some of the other local businesses in town to see who was like-minded in the sense that they were community-oriented. Heritage [Insurance] is also a business that is well known for giving back to the community, so we thought 'we like to give back to the community, let's approach them,' and Greg was very receptive to that and agreed to partner in Christmas For A Cause," explained Statler.

With Families For Change being a non-profit themselves, it begged the question as to why they wouldn't be keeping the donations. Statler said it's because they have been feeling a lot of love lately and want to spread that around.

"Moose Jaw Families For Change has recently received a lot of community outpour in the sense that lots of folks have wanted to assist us. We were just the recipients of Co-op Fuel Good Day, the Kinsmen Club in Moose Jaw here has graciously provided some assistance to us as well in partnering to name our new inclusion centre. We feel like the community has been very gracious to us, and we want to do our due diligence and reach back out to the community and do something meaningful."

Each year there will be a new group or organization that will be chosen to receive the proceeds from Christmas For A Cause. For the inaugural year, the money will be going to a team that helps animals as opposed to people.

"Flirting with Fido is a local non-profit organization; they focus on the rehabilitation, fostering, and re-homing of dogs in need. We reached out to them and they acknowledged that there's are a large overpopulation of dogs in Saskatchewan. They work on rehabilitating, re-homing and fostering and they actually re-home out in Victoria as well."

This new initiative will take place on Thursday evening and on Saturdays. To see the full list of dates and times, click here
