While the City is actively working to curb the number of water main breaks in our infrastructure, we are on track to have the third highest year ever of breaks in Moose Jaw.

Currently, there have been 70 breaks in Moose Jaw, which is slightly down compared to last year.

With Phase 3 of the Watermain Replacement Program completed, the City's main goal is to secure our water delivery system in Moose Jaw, but there is the added benefit of eventually reducing the number of breaks in our infrastructure.

"It takes a lot of time, effort, and money and labour to handle those breaks," City Communications Manager Craig Hemingway said. "Over the years our crews have been able to reduce the cost per break and find efficiencies in making those repairs but certainly as time goes on if we're able to limit the number of water main breaks that will free up money and resources to attack other projects."

For Phase 4 of the Watermain Replacement Program, the engineering department will be selecting locations that see breaks too often, which will keep everyone's water safe while also reducing the number of times the City will have to make repairs.

Although, Hemingway added that it will still be another two or three years before the program will see a clear change in the amount of water main breaks in the City.
