Residents will have a chance to learn the ins and outs of the Moose Jaw Police Service through the Community Police Academy this fall.

They decided to bring back the program last year and with a large amount of interest they received, have brought it back once again.

The Police Service will be showing areas of the station, introducing participants to the K-9 unit and providing training on some of their current practices.

"It's a six week program, the first day we'll have a tour, we'll go through victim services," explained Constable Kyle Cunningham, member of the Community Programs and Safety Unit. "Things to do with driving, drugs, we'll have members showing some of the strategies and tactics we use with our fire arms and defensive tools."

Participants will also be able to experience a ride along with the course finishing up with a gradation ceremony.

Cunningham added that not only is this an exciting opportunity for residents, but the members of the police service enjoy establishing new relationships with attendees.

"We've actually had members that we've hired here that took part in the police academies in high school as well as community police academies in the past, as well as other members who are working in civilian positions who have taken part. We're really excited to show what we do to the people here in Moose Jaw."

The Community Police Academy runs from October 11th to November 15th on Wednesday evenings and applications can be submitted online or in person at the police station.

Those wishing to join are required to have a clean criminal record and will need two pieces of identification.

The deadline to apply for the community police academy is September 15th.
