If you see steam or hear noise coming from the Great Plains Power Station over the next two weeks, don’t be alarmed.

Steam lines at the power station are being cleaned out, and the steam blows are expected to last for the next 10 to 14 days.

SaskPower says the noise will be comparable to downtown traffic at 85 decibels and they are using a silencer, but residents could hear either intermittent blasts or continuous sounds during the steam blows. Residents may also see steam.

The Great Plains Power Station is southeast of the city in the Moose Jaw Agri-Food Industrial Park and is expected to be operational by this fall.

The natural gas plant is expected to give power for 377,000 homes in Saskatchewan and has an anticipated life cycle of 25 years.
