It came as a surprise to many, including Moose Jaw Mayor Deb Higgins but while surprised by the Liberals taking a majority in Monday's federal election she sees some promises that could benefit the city.

Higgins had been paying close attention to the campaign, especially as it pertained to each parties' position on infrastructure spending for small cities.  Justin Trudeau's Liberals campaigned on running a deficit in part to fund infrastructure projects in the country and Higgins is hoping that translates into dollars for Moose Jaw.

"I'm not sure when the Parliament will sit again but once we have time for the transition to take place, hopefully some of the platform commitments will roll out and the big one for me is the infrastructure."

Higgins was pleased with the high voter turnout on election night, with many ridings seeing over 70 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot.
