The Prairie South and Holy Trinity Catholic school divisions have revised their back-to-school safety plans after consultation with local public health doctors.

Holy Trinity says that masks will be required for all students, staff, and visitors in their elementary schools unless individuals have a medical restriction. Masks are not mandatory for high-school students, however.

In a release, Holy Trinity said that since only about 20% of their elementary students are fully vaccinated, mandatory masking is the best way of keeping them safe while minimizing disruption to in-person learning.

Prairie South meanwhile, is not making masks mandatory.

Instead, the division is strongly recommending that all unvaccinated students, staff, visitors, and pupils under the age of 12, wear a mask in common areas such as hallways, libraries, and buses. Masks may be removed in the classroom.

Neither divisions have plans to make vaccines mandatory for staff or eligible students at this time.
