The Government of Saskatchewan has declared June to be ‘Parks and Recreation Month’ in the province, and the City of Moose Jaw is doing their part to provide residents with a whole host of activities to participate in.

“We encourage everyone to try something new in June,” said Recreation Services Manager, Scott Osmachenko. “We have created our Notoriously Active Calendar; it is on the City’s website.”

The activity calendar was created in a partnership between the City of Moose Jaw and the Wakamow Valley Authority to outline the wide range of potential activities that can be found in the city. The activities range from geocaching in the Wakamow Valley to hiking or biking on one of the many trails throughout Moose Jaw.

Many of the suggested activities can be done free of charge and provide the framework for plenty of outdoor fun in the city.

Some brand-new activities have been unveiled just in time for ‘Parks and Recreation Month’, with the eagerly awaited Sunningdale Disc Golf Course and the Kinsmen Regal Heights Spray Park now being open for the public to enjoy.

“If you haven’t tried disc golf, I would encourage that (you try it), there are some discs that you can sign out at the Kinsmen Sportsplex,” said Osmachenko.

There is no shortage of fun to be had, and with over 40 kilometres of trails that encircle Moose Jaw alone there are plenty of spots to explore.

“My favourite activity is just going for a hike,” said Oscmachenko. “I would encourage everyone to find that trail in their neighborhood or maybe just walk through Happy Valley if you haven’t gone through there.”
