Nominations are now open for the City of Moose Jaw’s 2023 Tree of Significance.

The Tree of Significance program has been held each year in conjunction with National Tree Day and National Forest Week since its inception in 2011.

If there is a tree you feel others should know about it, the deadline to nominate it is Sept. 15. The winning tree or trees will be announced on National Tree Day on Sept. 20.

As part of the nomination, you will have to list why the tree is special, whether it is its shape and size, historical significance, a rare species or unusual or interesting in some way.

The trees nominated should be accessible to the public whether they are in public or institutional spaces or in the front or side yards of residential homes.

Last year’s winner was a mature ornamental crabapple tree located at 680 MacDonald St. W.

Nomination forms can be downloaded here or picked up at the Parks and Recreation Department office. Nominations can be submitted in person at City Hall or via email to recreation@moosejaw.ca.
