The Peacock versus Central boys volleyball rivalry this year was a family battle between Central head coach Cal Carter and his son, Peacock head coach Regan Carter.

Cal said his son's Peacock team had the most improved team from the start of the year, a fact they proved by pushing Central to five sets in their quarterfinal playoff game last night.

“Their coaches have really done a great job of coaching them and making them competitive, so I think they have a really good shot at regionals as well,” Cal Carter said.

Central went up 2 sets to none but Peacock stormed back to win two in a row and push a fifth set.

“Volleyball is a momentum sport,” said Carter. “They got momentum and we stopped swinging. We were passing well and then we just stopped hitting the ball.”

In the other quarterfinals, Avonlea swept Riverview three sets to none, and Cornerstone beat B.C.A. three sets to one.

In the girls division quarters, Cornerstone beat Central three sets to one last night, and in the boys division.

The girls semifinals have Peacock home to Cornerstone and Vanier hosts B.C.A. at 6

In the boys division, Central hosts Avonlea at 7 and Vanier will host Cornerstone at 8.

On the Nov. 15-16 weekend, the Toilers and Cyclones senior boys will tangle again with Vanier and Lumsden as Lumsden hosts regionals. Three of the four teams will move on to provincials the following weekend at North Battleford.

In the 1A Boys, conference play will be held this weekend, with Avonlea and Rouleau heading to Gladmar. Mossbank hosts Central Butte, Glentworth, Kincaid and Lafleche at their conference, with two of those teams heading to regionals.

In 2A boys conferences, Gravelbourg and Cornerstone will be at host Riverview. Two of the five teams there will move on to regionals the following weekend.
