A $111,000 increase to the Police Service Operating Budget was presented to City Council Monday night bringing the total budget for police in Moose Jaw to $5.7 million.

The 2007 Operating Budget for the Moose Jaw Police Service was presented to Council Monday night and then promptly referred to budget deliberations set to begin in just a few weeks.

Mayor Dale McBain points out an increase to the budget bringing the total needed for this year to 5.7 million dollars. "They're the same numbers as last year with one small addition and that's a 1.98 per cent increase for two additional police officers to get into drug enforcement."

The budget also accounts for an estimated wage increase that will be awarded to the police association after binding arbitration in their contract negotiations set to happen in the coming months.
