Five players from the Saskatchewan Roughriders were named to the CFL’s West Division all-star team on Wednesday

The Riders’ defence led the way with three players receiving the nod from the Football Reporters of Canada and CFL head coaches, while there was also one each from the team’s offence and special teams.

Defensive ends Willie Jefferson and Charleston Hughes were joined by halfback Ed Gainey on the West Division all-star defence. 

Hughes is a West Division all-star of the third season in a row and the seventh time in his career, while this Jefferson’s second straight all-star selection.

This is Gainey’s second straight West Division all-star selection.

Guard Brendon LaBatte earned his ninth career division all-star selection in 11 seasons.

Kicker Brett Lauther is an all-star for the first time in his career after connecting on 90-percent of his field goals during the season.

The Riders will battle the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Western Semi-Final on Sunday at Mosaic Stadium.
