12 days to a cleaner city - that was the goal of the first "Spring It Forward" program in the city, part of an initiative called "Clean it Up Month".

Residents, groups and business' gathered on Saturday morning, equipped with garbage bags and gloves with the goal of cleaning up all the litter accumulated over the colder months. The support of the community was a highlight for Mayor Fraser Tolmie.

"It's just raising awareness and actually hearing about other groups actually coming out and taking the challenge to do it".

With a strong showing in its inaugural year, Mayor Tolmie revealed that it wont be the last.

"I think we are looking at doing a fall program... This (Spring It Forward Program) is early stages. You see things like this grow and you just need to give people the opportunity to get involved. So we are going to grow this and make it an annual event".

Proclaimed "Spring It Forward Day", Saturday made a big impact on the visual appeal of local parks, green spaces, parking lots and ditches. Now that the day has come and gone, Mayor Tolmie urges residents to continue thinking about the state of cleanliness in our community.

"We just keep encouraging people to look at your own little area after this event. I'll be going home and cleaning up my front yard and picking up some of the debris... If your not at the park think about your own home".

The City of Moose Jaw also waived the $10 entry fee at the landfill for light vehicles for the duration of the program.
