A plane crash near the Swift Current Airport claimed the lives of both occupants last night.

The small, single-engine aircraft crashed shortly after 7 p.m. last night, approximately one kilometre southeast of the airport.

According to a release from the City of Swift Current, the fixed-wing aircraft had taken off from the airport at 7:04 p.m. with the call going out to emergency responders at 7:09 p.m.

Currently, the crash site is being protected by the RCMP, and Transport Canada will be investigating the incident.

In the release, it also states "the cause of the incident will be determined through the Transportation Safety Board's investigation" and the City will have no further comment on this incident.
