The recipients of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal were announced by Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty on Thursday. The medals will be presented at a ceremony on Thursday at Government House in Regina.

"The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal acknowledges the exceptional contributions made by these generous and capable individuals," Lieutenant Governor Mirasty said.  "I offer my congratulations and thanks to each recipient on this well-deserved honour."

The recipients this year include Anne Chase of Regina, Peggy George of Melfort, Derek Harrison of Fort Qu’Appelle, Ken Hartz of Bradwell, Eileen Herman of Qu’Appelle, Frank McDougall of Saskatoon, Jean de Dieu Ndayahundwa of Regina, Leela Sharma of Saskatoon, Lorraine Silzer of Assiniboia, Richard Strayer of Saskatoon and Bernice Woolhouse of Assiniboia. Lieutenant-Colonel (Rtf) Robert Cade, CD of Regina is receiving the medal posthumously.

Since the medal was introduced in 1995, 228 people in Saskatchewan have been recognized for their extraordinary volunteer work.
