First we learned we were required to complete an expensive wastewater treatment upgrade under federal regulations, now its going to cost more than first thought.

City Hall is recovering today after getting some rather shocking news from their City Engineer.

Ryan Johnson has reported to council that the Wastewater Treatment System Upgrade that must be completed under new federal regulations, is going to cost 8 million-dollars more than first thought.

"It was a surprise but when we look at the fact that the four largest construction companies in Saskatchewan bid on it and all their tenders were very close to each other, it is what the market is. So, unfortunately that means we need to find another 8 million dollars."

The cost for the project is now expected to be 26.6 million dollars. Some of the options City Hall has to raise the extra funds needed includes another rate increase or finding the funds in their existing budget which could mean cuts elsewhere.
