Fred Hobday of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the age of 69 years.

Fred was proud to be born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary after finishing university to pursue his forty-five year career as a Chartered Accountant. He loved playing hockey, and enjoyed wine making, golf, and crossword puzzles. He cherished spending time with his family at home, and always looked forward to family gatherings at Buffalo Pound Lake and the annual hunting trip with his brothers.

Fred enjoyed serving his community and gave his time to several organizations. He was a long-time member of Stampede City Kinsmen, was a board member of the Calgary Old-Time Hockey Players Association, and along with his brother Ken, was dedicated to running the Rangeland Hockey League for nearly four decades. He spent much of his spare time pursuing his love of hockey, playing as often as possible and organizing ice times for Summer Hockey and Sunday Hockey.

Fred is survived by his loving wife and best buddy of thirty nine years, Cathy Hobday; his two daughters, Elizabeth and Katie of Calgary, AB; and his siblings, Ed (Colleen) of Saskatoon, SK, Ken (Louise) of Calgary, AB, Cecil (Inger) of Nanaimo, BC, Muriel (Clive) of Moose Jaw, SK, Joyce (Ivan) of Meacham, SK, and Jean of Moose Jaw, SK, as well as many extended family members and close friends.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations in Fred’s honour can be made to the charity of your choice, along with a stop at your favourite watering hole for a toast to the loving memory of Fred.
