PETERSON, Betty Viola (nee Johnson)

We are saddened to announce the passing of a dear wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother on September 28th, 2018 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK. Betty was born on March 13th, 1925 in Riverhurst, SK to Louis and Mabel Johnson. She was the youngest of four children. They later moved to Central Butte, SK when Betty was seven. She was born into a very musical family. Her Dad, sister and two brothers and she played various musical instruments and they all played in bands in Central Butte and area. Betty rocked that piano from the time she was six years old and younger before her feet could reach the pedals. The kids at school would drag her to the piano to play for them at recess and lunch hour. Betty met and married Ralph Peterson in 1944 at the young age of nineteen. She moved to the farm after the wedding and became a farm girl. She had never had farm experience but she learned to handle the livestock, chickens and drive grain trucks, saying "I will show them", and show them she did. A friend who happened to be at the farm one day saw her barreling the big grain truck through the yard with chickens flying in all directions and nicknamed her "Cannonball". Betty worked tirelessly on the farm and inside the house. She gave unselfish and endless love to her four children and her husband. She cooked countless meals and lunches for hockey players, baseball players and friends. Animals and children were drawn to her. Betty was predeceased by her father Louis Johnson, mother Mabel Johnson, brother Glen Johnson, sister Mildred Spidell and granddaughter Crystal Simons. Betty is survived by her loving husband Ralph Peterson; daughters, Cheryl (Greg) Johnston and Diana (Doug) Simons; sons, Bob (Angie) Peterson, Randy (Louise) Peterson;grandchildren: Danny, Christy, Corey, Shawna, Lisa, Harley, Shane and fifteen great grandchildren; brother Lloyd (Marg) Johnson and several nieces and nephews. Our heartfelt thanks to College Park I and II staff for all their loving care and to the staff at the Pasqua Hospital for their kindness in her final days. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at 1:00PM at Speers Family Center 2333 Cornwall Street Regina, SK. with Celebrant Janet Mitchell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association 917A Albert St. Regina, SK S4R 2P6, Canadian Cancer Society 1910 McIntyre St. Regina, SK S4P 2R3, Regina Humane Society Box 3143 Regina, SK S4P 3G7 or to the Salthaven West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Box 31123 Normanview Post Office Regina, SK S4R 8R6.
