The Moose Jaw Bantam A Mavericks are riding high coming out of the weekend after they posted three wins in three nights in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League.

The Mavericks started the weekend with an 8-4 win over the Regina Bisons at the Red Knight Arena.  They carried that momentum out onto the road to pick up a 5-3 win over the Weyburn Wings on Saturday and an 11-1 win on Sunday.

Sidney Ellingson and Kaitlyn Gilroy led the Mavericks’ offence in Friday night’s win as they scored twice and finished with three points each. Keara Merriman, Taylor Kaulbach, Tia Miller and Nikita Halyk all picked up a goal and two points each in the win.

Saturday’s game was tight, but a big first period gave the Mavericks enough breathing room for the win. Halyk, Merriman and Chelsey DeGagne scored in the first period to give Moose Jaw a 3-1 lead.

The score stayed that way until early in the third period when Weyburn cut Moose Jaw’s lead down to one. DeGagne and Ellingson would score back-to-back to give the Mavericks some more breathing room on their way to the win.

On Sunday, Ember DuSomme scored 1:51 into the game, but the Wings tied things up a short while later to make it a 1-1 game after one.

That all changed in the second period as Moose Jaw exploded for six goals, including three in the final 2:08 of the period to take a 7-1 advantage into the third.

Moose Jaw added four goals in the third for the win.

Merriman and DuSomme had two goals and three points each, while Makayla Anderson and Gilroy chipped in with two goals each.  Halyk added three helpers in the win.

Ellingson and DeGagne had a goal and two points each, while Ellie Gauvin also found the back of the net in the lopsided victory.

Moose Jaw remains undefeated on the year at 13-0-0 on the year. They’ll be back on the ice on Friday when they head into Regina to face the Shamrocks at the Al Ritchie Arena.

In other weekend action in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League, the Peewee Mavericks were doubled up by the Swift Current Ice Cats, 8-4, on Saturday.  Moose Jaw is off until Dec. 30 when they face the Southwest Cyclones.

The Midget A Warriors spent the weekend on the ice as well, but they weren’t able to find much success, suffering three straight losses in the Hockey Regina League.

Taye Schoffer scored the lone goal for Moose Jaw in a 9-1 loss to Cupar on Friday.  They would then get shutout in their next two games, falling 4-0 to the Regina Blues on Saturday and 6-0 to Indian Head on Sunday.

The Warriors’ record sits at 0-9-0 on the year. Their next action is on Saturday when they host the Regina Cougars at the Bert Hunt Arena.

In other Hockey Regina action on the weekend, the Atom A Warriors dropped both games in a home-and-home with the Regina Cougars, falling 4-2 on Saturday and 3-2 on Sunday.

With the losses, Moose Jaw sits at 0-11-1 on the year. They’re off until Jan. 6 when they face Lumsden.

The Bantam A Warriors lost their lone game on Friday, dropping a 10-3 game to the Regina Royals. Nathan Varjassy had two goals and three points in the loss.

Mosoe Jaw is 1-9-1 on the year. They host Prairie Storm on Friday and the Regina Shamrocks on Saturday.

The Moose Jaw Peewee AA Warriors were swept by the Weyburn Wings on home ice in their two weekend games in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League.

Moose Jaw dropped an 8-3 game to the Wings on Saturday and then lost 7-3 on Sunday.

On Saturday, Bryce Boughen and Liam Fitzpatrick scored in the first period to give Moose Jaw a 2-1 lead, but Weyburn scored seven straight goals over the second and third period to skate to the win. Caleb Newkirk had the other goal for Moose Jaw in the loss.

Fitzgerald and Newkirk found the back of the net again for Moose Jaw in Sunday’s game, while Haydn Hudyma potted the other goal in the loss.

The Warriors sit in the middle of the pack in the league with a 4-10-1 record. They travel to Swift Current on Thursday to take on the Broncos.

The Moose Jaw Midget AA Warriors were on the road in Estevan and Weyburn on the weekend and came out on the losing end in both games in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League.

The Warriors lost 5-1 to the Estevan Bruins on Saturday and then dropped a 10-1 game to the Weyburn Wings on Sunday.

Keegan Hall scored Moose Jaw’s lone goal on Saturday, while Garrett Goy made 39 saves in the loss.

On Sunday, Hayden Wiebe picked up the Warriors’ only goal in the loss.

Moose Jaw is 3-13-1 on the year.  They have three games this week, starting on Tuesday when they travel to Lumsden to face the Lions at 8:15 p.m.

They will host the Prairie Storm on Thursday at the Bert Hunt Arena at 7:30 p.m. and then they have a rematch with the Lions on Saturday, again in Lusmden.
