The Regina Thunder have been on a tear in their past two games and Moose Jaw’s Sawyer Buettner is leading the way.

Buettner threw for 498 yards and six touchdowns on Sunday in the Thunder’s 61-7 domination of the Hamilton Hurricanes at Tim Hortons Field in Canadian Junior Football League action.

The Peacock graduate completed 22-of-27 passes for a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

Fellow Moose Jaw product Levi Paul hauled in one pass for a 15-yard touchdown, while Kristopher Calcutt was Buettner’s top target with four catches for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Greg Lamb had four catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Moose Jaw’s Daxton Moffat had one catch for seven yards and added a special teams tackle in the win.

Assiniboia product Carson Bell finished with three tackles.

The Thunder have topped 50 points in back-to-back weeks as they’ve improved their record to 2-1 on the year.

On Saturday, the Saskatoon Hilltops improved to 3-0 with a 49-15 win over the Ottawa Sooners in the Bridge City. Moose Jaw products Joel Litt-Jukes and Ryan Reidy didn’t factor into the win.
