Canada's final tune-up before the start of the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championships didn't go exactly as planned, as a rough first period led to Team Canada's demise in a 5-3 loss to Sweden at Rexall Place in Edmonton Friday.

It was Canada's first loss after beating Finland, 3-1, and Switzerland, 7-1, earlier this week in pre-tournament action.

Moose Jaw Warrior Quinton Howden played in his second straight game, but didn't pick up a point.

Vancouver's Brendan Gallagher and captain Jaden Schwartz each had a goal and two points in the loss.  Mark Stone opened the scoring in the first period, but Sweden answered with three straight to lead 3-1 after the first.

Canadian goalie Mark Visentin was pulled halfway through the game after allowing four goals on 17 shots.

Canada plays for real coming up on Boxing Day when they open the World Junior Hockey Championships against Finland. Canada has medalled at thirteen consecutive tournaments, but have lost back-to-back gold medal games.

Remember, Country 100 is the home of Team Canada during the World Juniors starting with the Boxing Day game.
