The rollercoaster ride continues for Saskatchewan as they won 8-7 in the first game of the championship round at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts at Mosaic Place Thursday afternoon.

A steal of one for Saskatchewan happened when P.E.I. jammed on a raise takeout, leaving the Saskatchewan stone in the rings.

“We played a pretty perfect tenth end there and got a couple of lucky breaks,” said Saskatchewan skip Robyn Silvernagle. “It’s tough with the five rock rule to make everything perfect. We executed well that end.”

Saskatchewan came out firing in the fifth end, picking up a four-spot after an open draw for Silvernagle. But PEI came back quickly and the teams were tied going into the 10th end, with PEI earning the hammer.

Silvernagle’s rink had a quick turnaround from an 11-end win over New Brunswick in the tiebreaker at 8 a.m. to the ten end match against PEI, and then the evening draw against Jennifer Jones’s impressive 7-1 team in the evening draw.

“We’ll have to really work hard tonight to keep our energy up,” Silvernagle said. “Three games in one day and going to that extra end in that one game it’s definitely going to be exhausting but we’ll do it. We’re so happy to still be playing.”

In the other matches in the first half, Ontario defeated Northern Ontario 9-4, Manitoba beat BC 8-4 and Wildcard defeated Canada 10-5.

The other matches in the evening draw will see Canada take on Manitoba, P.E.I. against Ontario and Northern Ontario against B.C.
