Tyson Jost scored once in regulation and once in the shootout to help Canada West to a 3-2 win over Russia in the final round robin game on Tuesday at the 2014 World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Kindersley, SK.

Jost, a forward for the Penticton Vees who played in the 2014 Telus Cup at Mosaic Place with the Okanagan Rockets, finished with two points in the win.

Moose Jaw's Rhett Gardner was held off the scoresheet in the win that sent Canada West into the quarterfinals.

Jost opened the scoring for Canada West just 1:39 into the game. Gabe Best gave Canada West a 2-0 lead before Russia mounted a comeback with goals from Denis Guryanov and Kirill Kaprizov in the second and third.

Jackson Keane – son of former Warrior Mike Keane – and Jost scored for Canada West in the shootout, while Tommy Nixon stopped both Russian shots.

Nixon made 33 saves in the win for Canada West, while Anton Krasotkin turned away 44 shots for Russia.

The quarterfinals are on Wednesday with Canada West taking on Canada East at 7:30pm, while Russia will face Switzerland at 3:30pm. Denmark and the United States both earned byes into the semifinals after going 2-0 during the round robin.

The semifinals are set for Thursday, while the gold medal game goes on Saturday.
